Animal Agency - Giving Animals a Voice in their Training

Canine Behaviour Consultations U.K.
We provide specialist canine behaviour consultations in the UK to understand and address underlying behavioural motivations and emotional wellbeing in dogs, with in-person support available in Bath, Bristol, and South Gloucestershire, and online consultations offered nationally.
Behavioural Assessment Approach
To address your animal’s behaviour, we need to understand their behavioural motivations. We do this through specialist assessments such as MHERA (Mood State, Hedonic Budget, Emotional and Reinforcement Assessment) and ESTA (Emotional Systems Therapeutic Application). These tools give us a clear picture of your animal’s emotional wellbeing and motivation, allowing us to design a behaviour plan that supports both their mental health and training needs.
Behaviour, Progress & Expectations
Every animal is unique, and behaviour challenges often take patience, commitment, and care to work through. While some issues may not disappear completely, with the right approach we can make meaningful improvements—helping to reduce stress, build confidence, and enhance the quality of life for both you and your animal.
Veterinary Referral Requirement
By law, only a veterinarian can rule out pain as a cause of behaviour problems. Due to potential overlap between health and behaviour, veterinary referral is essential. Download the form and send it to your veterinary surgeon for completion. The completed form can then be returned directly to us or sent by your vet. Dog Behaviour Problems We Help With
Dog behaviour consultations can support dogs who are experiencing difficulties such as:
-
Difficulty coping when left alone, including barking, howling, destruction, or signs of distress during separation.
-
Concerning or unsafe behaviour around people or other animals, including growling, snapping, or guarding food, toys, or spaces.
-
Fearful or anxious responses to specific situations, such as loud noises (fireworks or storms), unfamiliar people, veterinary visits, or new environments.
-
Over-aroused or intense behaviour on walks or at home, including barking, lunging, or difficulty disengaging from triggers.
-
Destructive behaviour directed towards furniture, doors, or household items.
-
Excessive vocalisation, such as persistent barking, whining, or howling.
-
Inappropriate toileting behaviours, including house-soiling or indoor marking.
-
Repetitive or compulsive behaviours, such as tail chasing, spinning, shadow or light chasing, or excessive licking.
-
Over-excitability and challenges with self-regulation, including jumping up, mouthing, or difficulty settling.
A study conducted by conducted by genetics researchers in the University of Helsinki’s Department of Veterinary Biosciences collected 13,715 responses from owners of 264 canine breeds to questions regarding 7 anxiety traits. ~72.5% of dogs display some type of troubling or anxiety-related behaviour.
