Animal Agency - Giving Animals a Voice in their Training

Feline Behaviour Consultations (Online)
We provide specialist feline behaviour consultations to understand and address underlying behavioural motivations and emotional wellbeing.
Behavioural Assessment Approach
To address your animal’s behaviour, we need to understand their behavioural motivations. We do this through specialist assessments such as MHERA (Mood State, Hedonic Budget, Emotional and Reinforcement Assessment) and ESTA (Emotional Systems Therapeutic Application). These tools give us a clear picture of your animal’s emotional wellbeing and motivation, allowing us to design a behaviour plan that supports both their mental health and training needs.
Online Consultations (National & International Support)
All cat behaviour consultations are offered remotely, providing support for clients nationally and internationally.
Behaviour, Progress & Expectations
Every animal is unique, and behaviour challenges often take patience, commitment, and care to work through. While some issues may not disappear completely, with the right approach we can make meaningful improvements—helping to reduce stress, build confidence, and enhance the quality of life for both you and your animal.
Veterinary Referral Requirement
By law, only a veterinarian can rule out pain as a cause of behaviour problems. Due to potential overlap between health and behaviour, veterinary referral is essential. For this reason, all behaviour cases must come via veterinary referral. Please ask your vet to complete our form and return it with your animal's history. Download the form and send it to your veterinary surgeon for completion. The completed form can then be returned directly to us or sent by your vet. Common Cat Behaviour Issues We Support
Cat behaviour consultations can support cats experiencing a range of challenges, including:
-
Litter tray difficulties, such as urinating or defecating outside the tray, or preferences related to tray location or substrate.
-
Urine or scent marking within the home.
-
Concerning or unsafe behaviour towards people or other cats, including hissing, swatting, or defensive responses.
-
Fearful or anxious behaviour, such as hiding, heightened startle responses, or difficulty coping with change.
-
Tension or conflict between cats in multi-cat households, including chasing, fighting, or ongoing “silent stress.”
-
Excessive vocalisation, including frequent meowing or yowling, particularly at night.
-
Over-grooming or barbering, leading to hair loss or skin irritation.
-
Repetitive or compulsive behaviours, such as pacing, repetitive movements, wool-sucking, or tail chasing.
-
Damage to household items, including scratching furniture, carpets, or doors.
-
Predatory behaviour management, such as concerns around hunting wildlife or targeting other household pets.
-
Stress related to handling, grooming, or veterinary visits, including difficulty being picked up, transported, or examined.
-
Support with new introductions, including new pets or babies in the household.
-
Adjustment to environmental changes, such as moving home, renovations, or the loss of a companion animal.
About 66.4% of UK cat caregivers reported that their cat displayed at least one problem behaviour. Most had only one, but ~30.9% had two, ~13.1% had three, and ~8.8% had four or more.
